About us
My life has truly revolved around horses since we moved onto a farm, and I was introduced to them, at the age of 6. Growing up my mom always had a giant garden and found everything else she needed for herbs/plants in the wild. We lived out in the country, with a lot of land to explore, and not many neighbors at that time. We did not use pharmaceutical medications as my mom would make us what we needed herself.
Fast forward to my adult life, I created a horse training business and did that full time from the age of 19. Mainly colt starting and training trail horses at first. As I gained more experience, I then started dealing with performance horses and dived into the world of barrel racing. I have been hooked ever since.
Now where does this all connect? As many know, performance horses need to be on top of their game at all times. Keeping them there though is not easy. Ulcers, soreness, inflammation, lung problems, so many constant issues. As someone who has never used pharmaceuticals, it was extremely hard for me to think that constantly putting these horses through medications, just for us to enjoy a hobby with them, was the correct way to go about this.
After the last several years of training and competing on these barrel horses I’d finally had enough. I had a few horses that were bleeders (EIPH) and extremely hard keepers. I have played the lasix game. I’ve done the constant ulcer treatments. They have the best quality hay and feed. They are way more in shape than they probably even need to be. So what is going wrong? I, of course, really started digging deeper and thinking in the most natural way.
In nature, horses grazed on a very large variety of plants daily. They would seek out what they needed and keep themselves healthy. Yes barrel racing isn’t “normal” to them, but they exerted themselves much harder in the wild than what we ask them to do. I noticed my horses ate down all the thistles in their pasture and couldn’t believe they would choose to eat something so “pokey”. Well that’s where it all starts to click for me. Our horses only have access to the grass/plants in their pasture and whatever it is that WE feed them. I researched what my horses were getting out of the thistles. Which then led to me finding all the plants, herbs, barks, etc that horses seek out and why. I couldn’t believe how similar it all was to everything I was taught from my mom as a child about what herbs we as humans need and for what purposes. Along with the fact that myself and my family take so many of these herbs daily to keep our health good. So of course I then felt it was my job to fill in this gap for my horses as well and start giving them these other sources of nutrition that they are not able to seek out themselves.
These past few years I’ve slowly been creating my own herbal blends that I started out giving to all my colts and used them as test dummy’s per se. I have always been real nervous about my top performance horses and playing around with “unknowns” on them so it seemed like the place to start seeing as I always own tons of colts. I found that there is truly not much that they won’t eat (that is meant to be eaten by horses) and they absolutely devour their herbal mixtures. Not to mention the results they had such as their shiny coats, strong hoof growth, happy digestive tracts, were very easy to see too.
I then proceeded to start giving it to my 5 year old performance mare. She is a 1D horse. But greatly struggles with the issues of ulcers, bleeding during runs, nerve pain etc. As many of these horses do. I did a lot of tests on her through the vet. I did the pharmaceutical drugs to get her “healthy”. I found some other herbal companies to help her out. Which they did help. Greatly! But she just still wasn’t where I’d like her to be. She struggled being ran on lasix but she was a confirmed bleeder so I was nervous to not do it. Struggled keeping weight. When she performed good she did GOOD. But she just never could stay feeling good.
That’s when I decided to go all in and give her just my own mixes. It’s hard not to get suckered into the marketing of these big feed companies and feeling like your horse “needs” this and that grain/product. I could tailor a program specifically for her without giving her any ingredients that would go against the issues she already has. I’ve now been able to run her off of lasix several times. With the support of Max Performance & Breathe. Which for this mare is amazing.
I also had a lot of lesson and training clients start buying formulas from me for their horses. It was actually crazy to see how much these herbs could truly heal horses and solve health problems. Problems that people have had with their horses for years were able to be solved after months of healing the body from the inside out.
The customers I had then started getting their horses vetted, scopes done on their lungs, etc. What we were finding in result to feeding these herbs was incredible. Bacterial infections were clearing, mucous filled lungs and snotty noses were going away, top lines were coming back, I could go on and on. Things that they tell you only pharmaceutical meds can clear were clearing without that. The vets of these customers even were surprised and said these products are working, don’t stop using them.
From then my clients really started pushing me to publicly sell these products. I resisted for a while, but at one point I just could no longer resist the thought of being able to help an even larger amount of horses by offering good, natural, products like these.
It’s a tough game keeping up in the performance world. Especially when you try to do things naturally with horses. But after these last several years, and especially this last year, I know its possible to keep a top performance horse healthy while using very minimal pharmaceuticals, if any, and feeding them the way nature intended.
My only regret in all of this was not starting it sooner and believing I could naturally heal my horses. If I could’ve done this 10+ years ago instead, I know there is so many horses I have owned in that time period that I could’ve greatly helped. But God truly has a path for all of us and it’s all in his timing.
